It Was My Own Fault
Boy did I get in trouble the other night.
My wife Lisa caught me doin sumthin I never shoulda been doin.
And let me tell you, she wasn’t too happy about it.
It all began when I was sitting here in my spare bedroom office working on the computer.
Now you might be thinking, why would your wife get upset about that? That’s what you do for a living.
Well, here’s the problem…
I made Lisa two promises a couple years back when we got engaged.
1. I promised her that I’d NEVER work past 5PM.
2. I promised that I’d NEVER let my business take precedence over our family time.
And the other night, I broke my first promise to her, while coming dangerously close to breaking the second one.
So truth is, she had every right to be upset.
You see…
I’ve always been a really hard worker. The fact that I worked as an Alaska Fisherman for seven years proves that point.
And to top it off, I get great satisfaction from showing my clients how easy it is to have a profitable home business like mine.
As a result, much of what I do doesn’t seem like work, because I’m passionate about what I have to offer, and I enjoy what I do.
But now I’m getting side tracked, so let’s get back to the other night’s happenings…
Lisa and I had plans to meet some friends for the evening.
While she was getting ready, I figured I’d zip down to the office really quick and respond to some client emails.
I hadn’t even been at it for two minutes when Lisa caught me in the act… and got really angry.
And truth is, I can’t blame her.
I tried to justify my actions by explaining that I was helping some of my new clients get their Automatic Income System up and running as fast as possible.
But…
She wasn’t buying it.
“I thought you didn’t offer email consulting for your clients”, she exclaimed.
“I don’t”, I replied, “but I’m excited about the results everyone’s having with the system, so I thought I’d bend the rules a little”.
To make a long story short, this was a losing battle, and I knew it.
You see, when I started helping stay at home moms (and dads), I assured Lisa that I’d structure it in a way that wouldn’t cut into our personal time.
Now I’d broken this promise, and to be honest, it made me feel pretty bad.
So…
Needless to say, I had to make a few changes.
But the whole incident brings up a VERY important point.
When thinking about your own business, you need to get perfectly clear on what you will, and WILL NOT do.
Decide how you want your business to fit into YOUR lifestyle, and structure it accordingly.
After all, the one and ONLY purpose of your business is to provide the lifestyle of your choosing.
Most home-based business owners don’t consider this, and by the time they figure out what happened, their business has taken control of their lives.
By following my lead, this will never happen to you. Instead, you’ll have a business that provides you with a great monthly income, and more importantly, the lifestyle of your choosing.
Dedicated to your success,
Kevin Thompson
