Postage Increase Pains
1 week ago today, the United States Postal Service raised the postage rates, yet again.
Seems like they're raising rates pretty regularly these days.
While most folks will only notice the .02 cent increase for mailing a letter, many business owners who use direct mail are REALLY feeling the pinch.
For example:
The postage for the Look Over My Shoulder Newsletter, which is mailed to my clients each month – jumped from .63 cents all the way up to .97 cents.
The Mastery Group Coaching Package, which is also mailed to my clients every month – jumped from .75 cents, all the way up to $1.50.
That's a 100% increase.
Here's what's interesting about this:
Every time the postage rates increase, it puts a large group of business owners into a stressed out tailspin.
They immediately begin looking for ways to cut back on their mailing costs, or get rid of them all together.
I – on the other hand, am doing no such thing.
In fact…
I'm going to be mailing BIGGER packages, and I'm gonna be doing it more often.
Why?
Because the herd has thinned (as Dan Kennedy likes to say), and now there's going to be a lot less mail in people's mailbox.
That means MY mail is going to get a BETTER response, simply because the readership will be bigger.
At this point, you might be thinking to yourself, "Why in the heck is Kevin talking to me about postage costs?
After all, I just want to make munee with a home business of my own, using the internet. I'm not even doing any direct mail".
And yes, you're absolutely right.
The reason I talking with you about the subject of "postage" today, is not to suggest that you begin doing direct mail (at least not until you're banking boatloads on the internet).
My purpose in telling you this is to help you understand that in order to be massively successful, in ANY business, you MUST think differently than your competition.
When they're retreating (as the majority of direct mail businesses are doing right now), it lets you step in - and snatch up new customers, so you can dominate your marketplace.
And make no mistake about it, opportunities such as this present themselves all the time (especially on the internet).
Your job is to spot the opportunities (with my help), and jump on em' when the jumpin's good.
Dan Kennedy, in the most recent edition of his No B.S. Newsletter, gave the perfect analogy.
He said, "It's sort of being bothered by a little rainstorm at a picnic. The more of them that run for cover, the more macaroni salad there is for me".
While everybody else is whining and moaning about how hard it is to make a buck on the internet, myself and my clients are quietly raking in the MAJOR cashola – right under the noses of all our competitors.
I'm getting ready to make a BIG announcement in the next day or so.
Keep an eye on your inbox because you won't want to miss this.
Dedicated to your success,
Kevin Thompson
