A Lesson In Premium Pricing
Earlier this year, on August 23rd, I was in Tampa, Florida for Matt Furey’s Mastermind Meeting.
One of the things Matt offers at these meeting is something called a “hotseat”.
A “hotseat” is where Matt brings you up on stage with him, in front of the entire audience, and you get to ask him how to overcome your biggest business challenge.
At which time Matt and the rest of the group will single-handedly tell you precisely what you need to do.
And let me tell you, sometimes these “hotseats” can be REALLY uncomfortable.
After all, you’re being put on the spot, right in front of God, Matt and everyone else in the audience.
But…
If you’re open to constructive criticism, it can be one of the most valuable experiences of your life.
You’ll come away, knowing exactly what changes you need to make in your business.
And many times, these changes will lead to dramatic increases in your income.
This is exactly what happened to me on August 23rd.
Matt had chosen me for the “hotseat”.
I went up to the stage, sat in the chair that was waiting for me, and Matt asks me, “So Kev, what’s your biggest business challenge at the moment”?
I immediately began telling him about my coaching program.
I said, “Matt, I’ve been offering my Automatic Income Mastery Coaching Program for several years now.
In that time, I’ve seen many of the members increase their incomes dramatically.
Anyone who sticks with the program and does what I show them, ALWAYS gets incredible results.
Their income skyrockets.
They get to take more time off.
They have more fun with their business than they ever imagined.
They get great satisfaction from using their business to help other people.
I mean, the list goes on, and on, and on.
But here’s my challenge - like I said, the people who stay in my coaching program, and do what I show them always get incredible results.
But…
There’s a fair amount of people who don’t stay in the program beyond the 3-month trial period.
Or, they stay in for a month or two, and then drop out.
I always hate to see people give up like this, because I know what they could accomplish, if only they’d stick with it.
So, I guess my question is this, how can I impress upon these people the value of staying in the coaching program”?
After hearing this, Matt then asks me, “What’s the investment for your coaching program”?
To which I reply, “Well, after the 3-month trial period, it’s $97 a month, and they can cancel anytime”.
Matt then says, “THAT’S the problem.
For crying out loud Kevin, you give your members 2 regularly scheduled coaching calls every month, you give them a subscription to your monthly newsletter, they get 24 hour access to your members forum, and they get a ton of other stuff as well.
Not to mention the fact that you host a huge number of bonus training events for your members as well.
$97 is WAY too cheap, and that’s the reason people drop out of your coaching program.
They don’t put enough value on it.
You need to raise the investment, and you need to raise it dramatically”.
Needless to say, it was a little bit painful for me to hear this, but I have to admit, I was curious as to what he was thinking, so I asked him, “How much should I raise the investment”?
“You need to increase the investment for your coaching program to a minimum of $397 a month”.
Now, most people would be in shock by such a statement.
But I’ve been in Matt’s Mastermind Group since 2003, so I wasn’t as shocked by his statement as most folks probably were.
I came back home from that meeting and immediately did what Matt told me to do.
I increased the investment for the Automatic Income Mastery Coaching Program to $397.
And guess what happened.
Just like Matt promised, people are placing MUCH more value on the program, and as a result, they’re getting even BETTER results.
After seeing this, it got me thinking about my own experience.
I too have been involved in many coaching programs over the years.
I’m currently involved in three of them.
One runs me 10K a year, one runs me 25K a year, and the other (Matt Furey’s Manhattan Mastermind) runs me $75K a year.
I’m a living proof that the more one invests in something, the more they value it.
And let me tell you, my investment in each one of these groups comes back to me MANY times over.
